Kathleen Casey-Kirschling is the number one baby boomer in the U.S., born one second after midnight, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA. Turning 60 this year marks a milestone not only for her but for the entire wave of boomers she has come to represent (demographers cite her birthday as the starting point for the 76+ million cohort of Americans born from 1946 through 1964). In 1980, she suddenly found herself the focus of unsought fame when Landon Jones depicted her as the first boomer in his book Great Expectations: America and the Baby Boom Generation.

Since then, she has seen her life recounted in newspapers and magazines as well as on TV each time the turning of a new decade approached.
